Biography
Pier Matteo Barone Born on 1982, in 2004, he receives a Laurea degree in Preservation of Cultural Heritage (cum laude) with a specialisation in Methodology applied to Archaeology at University of Bologna, Italy. He has a MSc in Geoarchaeology at University of Roma Tre, Italy and a PhD in Landscape Analysis and Valorisation at the University of Molise, Italy, holding a government research fellowship and in collaboration with the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, University of Cambridge, UK.
He is an adjunct faculty member of the American University of Rome teaching courses on archaeological methodology, geophysical techniques and forensic archaeology, as well as courses on the archaeology and heritage of Rome and the eastern Mediterranean. He is a recognized expert in forensic geosciences (forensic archaeology and forensic geophysics in particular) as well, consulting law enforcement and testifying in criminal and civil cases.
He was engaged in a three-year international research project with the geological institute of CNR investigating marble quarries of the Greco-Roman world. He recently won the Italian Investigation & Forensic Awards for the Excellence in Forensic Archaeology.
He took part in several geo-archaeological missions and forensic investigations both in Italy and abroad, as well as several international conferences with numerous oral and poster presentations; he published more than 100 papers on peer-reviewed international journals on the above-mentioned topics.
