Legal challenges of 5G Mobile Technology in the European Union -Strategic Environmental Assessments & necessary update of the EIA Directive

Abstract
Do plans and programs for the comprehensive expansion of the 5G network in the member states of the European Union require the implementation of Strategic Environmental Assessments? To answer this question, the relevant directives at Union level were analyzed. In addition research on the effects of mobile communications technology was done. The result shows that Strategic Environmental Assessments are required in the member states. Also, a regulatory deficit in the European Union’s Environmental Impact Directive was revealed.
