Darrell Jay Grimes research is primarily focused on the Vibrios.The genus Vibrio now includes 139 species and is considered by most marine microbiologists to comprise the dominant culturable bacterial taxon in the ocean. Much of my research has focused on V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus, although we have recently looked at the abundance and distribution of V. cholerae along the Northern Gulf of Mexico coastline. We are especially interested in the ecology of these indigenous marine bacteria and the factors that allow them to survive in the environment and to cause disease in humans and other animals. Current research projects include: forecasting the abundance and distribution of V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus in coastal waters by using satellite remote sensing; examining the abundance and distribution of virulent strains of V. parahaemolyticus in the Northern Gulf of Mexico; viable but nonculturable Vibrios; V. vulnificus and necrotizing fasciitis; naturally occurring Vibrios and other bacteria in elasmobranch fishes; examining the distribution and function of the enzyme urease in V. parahaemolyticus strains and understanding the role of Vibrios in biodegradation of wastes, including petroleum, in the ocean. Most recently, we began looking at antibiotic resistance in marine bacteria and we are finding antibiotic resistant Vibrios. Finally, because the GCRL has a large research and development program in marine fish aquaculture, my Marine Microbial Ecology laboratory works with the GCRL marine aquaculture team to study and find cures for bacterial diseases, especially vibriosis.

Martin Kappas earned a German MSc- Geography (six year running program) degree from University of Bonn, Germany in 1989 and a PhD in Environmental Sciences/Climatology from the University of Mannheim in 1993. After his PhD (summa cum laude) Martin started a six year running habilitation program at the University of Mannheim to obtain the international venia legendi for Geography in 1998. Since 2000 Martin has been a University Professor of Geography and the head of the Cartography, GIS and Remote Sensing Section of the Georg-August University of Gottingen. His Remote Sensing laboratory is a full member of EARSeL (European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories) and takes part as active member of DesertNET (Competence Network for Research to Combat Desertification). Moreover he is a member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Sustainable Development (IZNE), the Center of Applied Informatics and the Gottingen International Health Network (GIHN). His research interests are broad and include topics such as landscape evaluation using techniques of geoinformatics and ground truth data collection (e.g. field spectrometry). His main research theme is the use of remote sensing and GIS to study land cover / land use change and dynamics. He is currently working on diverse interdisciplinary projects in Kazakhstan, Usbeskistan and Mongolia (grassland carbon sequestration and ecological site classification), Africa (LULCC, ecosystem services for food security, health topics), Europe (South France, landscape degradation in the Mediterranean area), Vietnam (land use / land cover change analysis and integrated watershed analysis) and Germany (mapping biomass potentials for future bioenergy use). In 2005 and 2009 Martin was a visiting Professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). He is a reviewer for the German Science Community (DFG) and the German Humboldt foundation. Martin also serves actively inside various societies such as the German Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and the German International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).

Ozaki discovered DAB: regulator of Ca2+ release, anti-aging reagents. Ozaki is proposing method to protect global warming. His method is promotion of CO2 assimilation by effective use of NOx and drainage nitrogen, phosphorous,. Many countries hating NOx as pollution gas and eliminating by ammonia. Ozaki is considering that NOx is best promotor of CO2 assimilation . For the promotion of CO2 assimilation, NOx elimination should be stopped. Drainage NP elimination should be stopped.
Hafiz Suleria is an eminent young researcher in the field of Food Science and Nutrition. Currently, working as Alfred Deakin Research Fellow at the Deakin University, Australia. He is also an Honorary Fellow in the Diamantina Institute Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. He has earned his Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from the Department of Food, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health, Kansas State University, USA. Previously, he was awarded an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) and Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) for his PhD research at UQ School of Medicine, the Translational Research Institute (TRI) in collaboration with Commonwealth and Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO, Australia). Before joining the UQ, he worked as a Lecturer in Department of Food Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan. He also worked as Research Associate in PAK-US Joint Project funded by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan and Department of State, USA with collaboration of University of Massachusetts, USA and National Institute of Food Science and Technology, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Pakistan. He has a major research focus on food science and nutrition particularly in screening of bioactive molecules isolation, purification and characterization using various cutting-edge techniques from different plants, marine and animal sources followed by their in vitro bioactivity, in vivo, cell culture and animal modelling. He did quite reasonable work on functional foods & nutraceutical, food and function and alternative medicine. Hafiz Suleria has published more than 70 peer reviewed scientific papers in different reputed/impacted journals. He is also in collaboration with more than five universities where he is working as a co supervisor/special member for PhD and Postgraduate students and also involved in joint publications, projects and grants.

Dr. Mauro Lenzi is an ecologist who graduated from the Biological Science of Pisa University (Italy). Currently, he directs the research activities of the Lagoon Ecology and Aquaculture Laboratory (LEALab). He cooperated or is co-operating with Grosseto University Pole, Universities of Pisa, Siena, Florence, Parma, Venice and Rome, Central Institute for Environment Research and Protection of Rome (ISPRA, ex ICRAM), WWF-Italy, Regional Agency for Tuscany Environmental Protection (ARPAT), FAO-Rome, National Research Council (CNR, Italy), National Agency for New Technology (ENEA), Italian Health High Institute (ISS) and Orbetello Lagoon Environmental Reclamation National Authority (now Tuscany Region Autority).

Dr. Lin is a Distinguished Yangtze River scholar Professor of Marine Natural Product Chemistry with Research Center for Marine Drugs at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and an Adjunct Professor of Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, he is also the Director of Department of Pharmacy of Renji hospital, affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Dr. Lin research is actively involved in the isolation, structural identification and elucidation of the action mechanisms of secondary metabolites from marine sponges. From resource exploitation of marine sponge to the discovery of new drugs, his group has established an integrated system and the first Integration Library on Xisha Sponge samples, fractions, and pure compounds. With the help of bioassay-guided technology and spectroscopic technology, over 1000 natural products, including 376 new compounds and 12 new skeletons, have been isolated from Xisha sponge. About 284 compounds have showed various activities, and 10 compounds have been selected as intensive anti-tumor leads (IC50 at nM level). His group has interpreted the anti-tumor mechanisms of the cyclopeptide (pk13) and macrolactones (bryostatins 5 and 6), revealing that bryostatin 5 is the first small marine molecule to exert influence on pro-apoptotic protein PUMA. Importantly, his group has developed 3 anti-tumor candidates (PK13, B5, and STS) with exact mechanism of action, significant activity, high safety, and independent intellectual property rights.
