Abstract
Cardiovascular Surgery is a speciality developed over the last six decades, undergoing profound changes in response to the needs of each historical stage. Its development occurred in close relationship with Thoracic Surgery for obvious anatomical reasons and both were born from general surgical activity, not specialized according to the concepts currently used [1].
