Abstract

The Niobium metal received this denomination in honor of Tantalus’s daughter (King of Greek Mythology), named Niobe. It was discovered in 1801 by Hatchett, and the Niobium nomenclature adopted by IUPAC in 1950. Niobium is not found in nature in a free condition, usually associated with the tantalo mineral [1].
